About us

Art is easier to love when you have met the person who made it.

HEYATELIER is a directory of artist studios. Artists make a page, collectors find them and get in touch directly. No gallery in between, no commission, no gatekeeping.

How this started

We built this because we needed it ourselves.

HEYATELIER was started by artists, so we knew the problem from the inside. Gallery rosters that were already full. Fairs and events that cost more to enter than a good month brings in. And the quiet rule underneath all of it, that you wait until somebody else decides it is your turn.

What changed things for us was people simply turning up. Collectors started coming to the studio, and that turned out to be the best part of the whole job. You explain your own work instead of a label on a wall doing it badly for you. You hear what somebody else sees in a piece you have been staring at for months. And when something sells there is no hauling it across town, because they wrap it up and carry it home themselves.

The other half came from walking around our own city. Artists here are almost impossible to find. Most have no website, and the ones who do sit three pages deep in a search nobody runs. It is a distribution problem, not a talent problem, and there is an enormous amount of work that almost nobody has laid eyes on. Meanwhile buying something mass produced only gets easier.

So we made the map we wanted ourselves. Every artist gets a page, free, whether they have shown in twenty places or none. Collectors find them and write to them directly. We take no percentage and we do not decide who is good enough to be here. If someone wants the work enough to stand in the room and ask about it, that is the only vote that counts.

What we built

Four things, and nothing else.

01

Direct contact

Message any artist through their page. The conversation is yours, we stay out of it.

02

No commission

Artists keep one hundred percent of what they sell. We charge a small monthly fee, never a cut.

03

Your own art route

Save the studios you want to see and plan a day around them.

04

Work you will not find elsewhere

Most of what stands in these studios has never been in a gallery, a fair or a shop.

Where we are now

New York first. Other cities will follow.

The platform is open to artists anywhere, but we build one city at a time. First the studios, then the collectors, then a HEYATELIER Weekend where a whole city opens its doors over a single weekend. New York is the first. We will name the next city when the artists there are ready.

Something you want to ask?

Artists, collectors and press all have their own route. It takes about ten seconds to find yours.
