For collectors

Meet the artist. See the studio. Skip the gallery.

Browse studios across New York, message artists directly, and visit the ones you love. It starts with a conversation, and it is free to begin.

Free to browse. Free to message.

A simpler way to see art

Seeing art should feel like meeting a person, not a market.

i.

Direct from the artist

No gallery in between. You talk to the person who made the work, in the room where they made it.

ii.

No pressure to buy

A visit is a visit. You can look, ask questions and leave again. Most people do, and artists are glad you came.

iii.

Free from the first click

Browsing, messaging and saving studios costs nothing. You only ever pay the artist, and only for work you choose.

How it works

From browsing to standing in the studio.

Quiet Brooklyn side street on a weekday morning, low brick warehouse buildings with tall metal windows, a loading door standing half open, a bicycle leaning against a wall.

STEP 01

Discover

Browse by city and neighborhood. Filter by medium, discipline and what is open near you.

A painter sitting on a paint-marked wooden stool in her studio, holding a phone loosely in one hand and looking up and away from it, thinking. The phone is seen from behind, screen not visible.

STEP 02

Connect

Message any artist directly through their page. No forms, no gatekeepers, no pressure.

Two people standing close to a large unstretched canvas hanging on a studio wall, one pointing at a detail, both seen from behind and in profile. A trestle table with brushes and rags at the edge of the frame.

STEP 03

Visit

See the work in person and meet the maker. Soon, whole neighborhoods will open at once during a HEYATELIER Weekend.

A medium sized canvas wrapped in brown kraft paper and string, leaning upright against the door frame of an artist studio, ready to leave. Beside it a pair of worn work boots and a roll of tape on the concrete floor.

STEP 04

Collect

Save the studios you love and come back. If a piece stays with you, you buy it directly from the artist.

New to studio visits?

A studio visit is a conversation, not a sales pitch. You do not need to buy anything, and you do not need to know art history. You are there to see the work up close and meet the person who made it. Bring your curiosity, that is all.

01

Say what drew you in. Artists love to hear what caught your eye.

02

Ask about the work: the process, the materials, the story behind it.

03

It is fine to ask about price, and fine to take your time deciding.

04

If a piece stays with you after you leave, reach back out. There is no rush.

Wide cinematic view of three people talking in the middle of a working artist studio, standing loosely apart, holding mugs, relaxed, none of them facing the camera.

Questions

First time visiting a studio?

It depends on the artist. Some list the dates they are open, others arrange a time by message. When the first HEYATELIER Weekend opens, those studios are open to everyone.

You look at the work and you talk. There is no script and no obligation. Say what caught your eye, ask about the process, and take as long as you like.

Artists on the Studio Plan show their exact address and a map on their page. Others will share it by message once you are in touch.

No. Browsing, messaging artists and saving studios is free. You only ever pay an artist directly, and only if you decide to buy something.

No. If you decide to buy, that is between you and the artist. We introduce you and give you a place to talk.
